How to take care of RUGS or CARPETS at Home

Rugs and carpets deserve the same care, but in some cases both rugs and carpets required special attention.


· Washing rugs Or Carpets— If rug or carpet is small and the manufacturers label says “machine washable,” shake the rug outside so dirt can be removed then put rugs or carpet in the washing machine keeping in mind washing instruction written on manufacturer label at the recommended temperature. Use warm water (90 to 105 degrees) and a mild detergent. Tumble your rug dry at the lowest heat setting.

· Beating larger rugs or Carpet — In case of larger size rugs or Carpet, If it is easy to pick up, shake the rugs or carpet outside in lawn or an open place first; then put it over a clothesline or hand it on wall and beat it. Next step will be to take the rug inside and vacuum the dirt/dust from it. If the label says dry clean only, then roll it up and take it to a dry cleaner.

· Vacuuming area rugs or carpet — Some time people used to have Area rugs or Carpets with a decorative border or edging of hanging threads, cords, or strips, often attached to a separate band. In this case it require special technique to clean and maintain it.While cleaning these Type of Rugs or Carpets use gentle suction and start from the center of the Rugs or Carpet, vacuuming toward the fringe (Boarder Area) being careful not to catch the strands in the beater bar. Lift the carpet edge to vacuum beneath the boarder Area or decorative border or edging of hanging threads.

· Caring for Oriental, Turkish or Persian rugs or Carpets —In this case one should clean imported rugs according to respective carpet manufacturer’s specifications or bring in a professional cleaning service. But please note again one should be gentle and careful while cleaning these types of rugs, especially in case of heirloom-type rugs or carpets services of professionals are recommended.

Recommendations for preventing dirt
To start with preventing dirt and grime from getting on the carpet or rugs. The great way to keeping it clean. The following helpful hints can stop dirt in its tracks.

1. One should keep in mind that all Outdoors and indoor mats or runners can reduce the amount of dirt that enters the house. So use mats to keep the dirt away from interior of your house.
2. Secondly, One can save wear and tear of Carpet or Rugs in house by asking everyone to take off his or her shoes before entering your home.
